Full room and standing ovation for Timothy Snyder in Brussels tonight.
Resistance needs to work collectively and develop a positive notion of freedom.
Europe should avoid the US tech race to the bottom. So-called “innovation” makes us dumber!

@AliceStollmeyer I was there too. Between that and some weak signals I picked up in the Brussels bubble, there seems to be some change in the air. Am I overly optimistic?
@alberto_cottica It definitely felt good and hopeful to be with so many like-minded people. I guess we can only hope that public pressure will help people at the top to have the courage and conscience to hold the line of freedom and to take the right decisions.
@AliceStollmeyer and at the same time it makes me uneasy when people treat historians and social scientists like oracles: "what do you think will happen?"
These disciplines look back, not forward, and aim to comprehend, not forecast. Asking their practitioners about the future feels like we are desperate for predictability. I worry this signals our lack of adaptability and unwillingness to face the uncertainty.
