In case it somehow wasn't already obvious how completely repellent the administration's legal harassment of Becca Good (Renee Good's widow) is, *six* senior career prosecutors in the local US Attorney's office resigned today because they wanted no part of it.

SIX.

Those six could shift to her defense team and help end these messes.

I think it is long past time for lawyers to make more complaints to their state bar associations and urge them to be quicker to investigate and fast track disciplinary cases (for the incompetent amoral whack jobs replacements that are sure to come).

If states move faster to discipline, they won't do so much damage- they have disbarred people (Guliani, Eastman, others) but do it sooner, before so much damage is done.Stop those careers earlier in the pipeline.

@mattblaze are we really crying for career state prosecutors in a country with the 5th highest incarceration rate in the world? 1.8 million people in prison.

The best thing they could have done was refuse to be complicit, but not resign and stay in post.
By resigning, that just speeds up the process of the installation of a complicit replacement. Stay in post and tell em to get fucked.

@srvanderplas @davidgrieve @mattblaze Then how does it work? Is the point that resigning is more politically loud (and as such, can have more impact) than being fired after doing your job properly?

@dragonfi @srvanderplas @davidgrieve These resignations have been top stories in most of the national news media outlets all day. That is an enormous amount of attention. It seems profound strange to deny that.

I suppose them all going at the same time adds to the impact of it.
We (you, I'm in the UK) are through the looking glass a bit here. Normal rules don't apply any more. I would say it's time to really start to push back with everything you have available to you (before it's too late).

The Minnesota shooting case is now metastasizing unlike any i've ever seen. The successive resignations of heads of the crim section at CRD and 3 top career prosecutors in Minn -- who had hung in all this year n/w/stg multiple outrages-- means the Department is in open revolt in DC and the field.

Understand, they'll just install someone compliant. They're gleefully happy when these folks resign, because it's less people to get in the way of their corruption.

@xenonchromatic @jackcole They could simply have fired them.

Resignations like this serve an important purpose. They bring a great deal of attention - especially among those familiar with the workings of agencies - to the gravity of a problem

One might reasonably wonder what you hope to accomplish by claiming it's futile.

@mattblaze @xenonchromatic @jackcole as a foreigner seeing all this from afar, my question to this is “whose attention, exactly?”

‘Cause what is going on within the ranks pretty much everywhere inside the federal government is IMO clear, at this point, to anyone who wants to see it, and has been for some time.

I doubt “more signal” is going to change the perception of those who still decided this is all OK…

@mattblaze @xenonchromatic @jackcole I don't think I've ever said that, did I?

I'm just debating your point that those resignations are -per se- obtaining something, other than keeping those people's conscience clear of this crap.

Which is fine, just probably irrelevant in the grand scheme.

@mattblaze @jackcole I was discussing this very point with my partner in a coffee shop this afternoon. Yes, 10, 20, 50 years ago, a resignation could send a "powerful message" that would be sufficient much of the time to pump the brakes on a political witch hunt. Matt, respectfully my guy, those days are gone. No amount of resigning to send a message is going to stop these people or change their path.

@mattblaze holy moly - It makes me all the more appreciative for every single person who still gets out there to protest, to film, to bear witness

Do we know of any Democratic politicians who are going out and standing or marching with people? Who’s helping to train / focus spotlights? ( @heidilifeldman this is a question I keep pondering for you as well)

If they've been fine with things thus far, the distinction now may be that their job would involve conduct likely to get them personally charged and/or disbarred at some point.
