Interesting, thanks.
It just seems a shame to create (and maintain) yet another UI for a fediverse server.
[ Personally I (try) to use web versions of apps where possible (with a well chosen/configured/tested browser) ... after all, who knows what a closed source app is doing, especially from companies with a poor privacy record (Facebook's "loopback" hack springs to mind). ]
I suppose you could wrap the existing PWA into an app, although I suppose thats likely to be rejected by the app stores.
BTW this thread caught my interest since I'll be doing my first "how to use" talk for my fediverse site next week. I think I'll raise this question to my audience.
Don't get me wrong, it sure would be great to have an easy way to create a site-specific cross-platform app to support users who prefer apps.
Cheers.
@plord @newsmast @quillmatiq I think of it more like RSS, where what we're publishing is RSSS, Really Simple Syndicated Social. Just like there's been a wealth of RSS readers, I think a broad range of social readers needs to thrive.
Everyone should get their social feeds in whatever manner works for them. This app is intended to close the gap for what I believe is an underserved portion of the audience.
@plord @newsmast @quillmatiq I have literally sat next to family members and said "I will do this for you" and it's a no go.
Must. Be. From. App. Store.
What Anuj said x100.
A PWA is too many steps/too complex for a lot of people, they want an app store for apps! Something easy and obvious
