RE: https://jaz.co.uk/2026/01/13/there-is-one-fediverse-there-are-a-thousand-ways-to-join-it/

"There is no “pick a server” screen or “find your instance”. There is no friction. This is not “a Mastodon app”; it is the Tŵt app, purpose-built for our community."

This is a vision of the Social Web which I'm sure many won't agree with or, potentially, won't even understand.

But, like Jaz, I'm pretty certain this is the future. We need to make spaces which are accessible to the general user, that just take them where they want to go without a scavenger hunt.

I'm so excited for this app and seeing how it can serve the existing community, Welsh people, and everyone else who wants to call it home 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

@saskia I read this and have a question because I am trying to understand. It's a server focussed on one area and has a curated feed to serve what someone thinks people want. Is that correct? Or did I misunderstand.?

@SamanthaJaneSmith

Hi Sammi, sorry I missed this!

Tŵt have had a Mastodon server for a few years, but now they're expanding to have a community app built and designed by @newsmast

The difference between the server and the app is quite simple, you don't need to visit Mastodon to use the app. Ever. You can download the Tŵt app from an app store, make an account, and start posting.

It removes a lot of barriers for people who don't want to be directed to Mastodon and then find a server and then make an account. It's just social media as expected, delivered as expected.

In the app, users can then post and interact as normal. Explore curated feeds. See their home timeline. Direct message (in a dedicated space). And more!
