As a C++ programmer, this article really raised a lot of interesting points.

IMO, one of the things the C++ community has actually become slowly better at is accepting new ideas.
#Rust really shook things up, but I'd say C++ has started to learn from rust, if not the core language then the idioms.

So I don't think C++ will be going exactly the same route as #Perl, but this should work as a cautionary tale not to.
