Microsoft Office has been replaced by "Microsoft 365 Copilot App" 🙄 (not a joke, see office.com)
Fortunately there are many good alternatives on the Fediverse:
➡️ @libreoffice - Free open source office suite, can be used entirely offline
➡️ @CollaboraOffice - Online fork of LibreOffice, upstream contributor
➡️ @nextcloud - FOSS personal cloud including collaborative office tools
➡️ @CryptPad - FOSS online office suite with maximum privacy
➡️ @ONLYOFFICE - FOSS online office suite

Ill vouch for nextcloud! While it does require your own instance be installed, for those less sys-admin minded, I can recommend pikapods.com as a VPS host. Just bear in mind pika has your data. I recently switched from pika pods to a local install of TrueNas, and using cloud flare tunnel to expose it to the internet.
LibreOffice is rock solid. No reason to ever have M$ Office on any device ever again.
@FediFollows @libreoffice In my mind, Marco Börries is celebrating his victory now, 42 years after he launched the first strike on the evil empire.

any thoughts on something that is just for calendaring?
@FediFollows @CollaboraOffice @nextcloud @CryptPad @jbz @libreoffice while I despise Copilot, this is just a rebranding of the 'office.com' hub app, not the office suite itself. Confusing, yes. But an important distinction.
It was renamed Microsoft 365 3 years ago, and they added "Copilot" 🤢🤮 in April 2025.
@FediFollows @CollaboraOffice @nextcloud @CryptPad @jbz @libreoffice it’s wild that “can be used completely offline” is a stand out quality for an office program these days.
@nextcloud has a prominent genAI assistant (https://nextcloud.com/assistant/) if y'all want to add that as a disclosure to your list.
Dirk Schrödter, Minister of Digitization of Schleswig-Holstein
In the future, we will make AI services available to colleagues in the state administration directly at the workplace. We want to drive the development of digitally sovereign and open solutions in addition to the use of existing AI services such as ChatGPT. Because, the administration of the future will work in an automated, algortihmized, cloudified and data-based way. To make this vision of the future a reality, we must provide the appropriate tools. This also creates value and jobs in our domestic digital economy.
Frank Karlitschek, Founder and CEO of Nextcloud
Schleswig-Holstein and Nextcloud recognize that Europe needs reliable AI technology that protects Europe’s economic and digital sovereignty. Our strategic initiative will lead to the first digitally sovereign AI that can deliver insights based on sensitive government data, without the risk of third-party access.
@FediFollows @nextcloud What's so bad about the Microsoft 365 co-pilot app?
@FediFollows @_L1vY_ @CollaboraOffice @nextcloud @CryptPad @ONLYOFFICE @jbz I was excited about @libreoffice but it was rather ugly on all my machines. I tried themes but couldn’t find one that worked properly.
