This shitty broken cast metal part is why my Merlin garage door opener is not usable at the moment.
The chunk that is broken off transmits the force from the trolley latch on the chain to the trolley assembly that pulls the door up.
I estimate the area of the broken surface at about 40 square mm.
As far as I can make out, this part is not available as a spare, despite only needing 3 screws undone to get to it.
Thinking about how to make a new one...

A grey cast metal part, broken into two pieces. The rough fractured surface is visible. The part is about 40mm long, 16mm diameter, composed of a short cylinder with a handle coming out from one ned.

@bigblen I assume the lower part is required as a kind of latch? But my first though was one or two D-shackles and drill a hole through the "latch" part. But not sure if there is enough material for this.

@waldschnecke The thin part with the small hole has a spring along it, and is used to disengage the chain from the door.
The exact shape is fairly important, though I'm not sure what the sloping nipple is for.

Meanwhile, I went to the MenzShed and made a replacement from steel.
It isn't hollow, so needs a shorter spring.

Two similar looking metal parts, see previous toot for more description.
On the left is a rough looking steel one, on the right a cast metal one (broken)
