@FediTips Hi! I'm very new to the Fediverse, and I'm sure this is an eye roll inducing question but I'm going to ask it anyway. How do I know which app to choose, or whether to use an app or the server website? What are the pros and cons?
@FediTips Any new folks reading this: tips are not mandatory reading. Start small. Search actually works on mastodon, no mysterious corporation to modify results for profit.
I've noticed that not every post of those I follow shows up in my timeline. That may not be a bad thing, because I've been following so many people and hashtags that my timeline is a little crowded. But I wonder what more I should know about "following".
In case it's relevant, I'm still on mastodon.social, though looking for an alternative that I like. I know mastodon.social's server must be overburdened. Also, I'm not "bridged" to any other social media.

When I was opening this account, I found a website that listed whether an instance is Fedipact, whether it's open for newcomers, and what the current population is.
Do you know where I can find that? I wanted to share it with someone today and couldn't find it.

If you're trying to recommend instances for new people to join, I would strongly recommend not using uncurated server lists that feature massive numbers of servers. They aren't doing any basic checks or requirements for the servers they list 😞
It would be a lot safer and more reliable to use https://fedi.garden or https://joinmastodon.org/servers which have minimum requirements (e.g. https://fedi.garden/about-this-site ).
All the instances listed on fedi.garden have defederated Threads.
I am wondering if you meant https://fedidb.com which used to list Fedipact status but no longer does.
However, the FediPact status doesn't necessarily help as there are many instances which have defederated Threads without actually adding their names to the FediPact list.
The only way to really be sure about Threads defederation is to try searching for a Threads account like AT zuck AT threads dot net on the instance website.
Having to sign up to check is not a good solution.
