This article has been making the rounds, so I might as well add my 2 cents:

I totally agree on the premise that people should have the choice of using mechanical shifting (and I totally do love to use it). What I disagree on is the implied expectation of if being available for cheap in mid-range bikes. And if you do not expect that, there will be no problem even with ubiquitous electronical shifting.
