Well that's an odd synchronicity. Sinkholes have opened up in England, Thailand and Norway. The first affecting a canal, the second a hospital, the third a railway and motorway. They don't seem to be causally related, but they're all at the top of the news this morning.

@strypey The event in England wasn't really a "sinkhole", despite being widely reported as such. Here's a slightly less sensationalist article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2lvq0yk9dko

I know the area. There aren't any old mine workings, and the geology isn't right for natural sinkholes.

Fair enough for reporters to use the term used by emergency services. From your link;

"Onsite engineers, from the Canal and River Trust, have said that earlier descriptions from emergency services of a 'sinkhole' were not accurate to describe what had happened."

Seems it's more accurately an "embankment failure".

Nope, not a synchronicity at all. The latter two stories are from September and August respectively, and they're only on the front page because they're related to the first one.

This is a great example of the difference between facts and interpretation. All the facts were there to lead me to the right conclusions, but my pre-coffee morning brain out 2+2 together and got an nonexistent mystery.
