Scholia barchart showing the number of articles with CiTO-annotated citations by year. The original Shotton 2010 paper is there, in green the Journal of Cheminformatics CiTO Pilot (2025 had 1 article with CiTO annotation), a large upcoming BioHackrXiv peak 16 preprints with intent annotations, and a growing number of intention annotation backed by nanopublications. Right now, 2024 still has the max, with 24 articles with CiTO-intent annotations, and 2025 just behind that with 22 (but there are a few more on the way...)
