@petersuber @ACM I don't see any kudos warranted.
Gold open access is not true open access.
It's just a different implementation of the same business model. By putting the financial burden onto the authors and institutions.
And thereby exclude all of those authors and institutions from publishing who cannot afford to pay the fees, article processing charges, or subscriptions
We will only have true open access once we got rid of commercial academic publishing altogether.
Update. I just learned that the announced #ACM transition to #OpenAccess is not all that it seems. I just signed this petition and hope you will too.

@petersuber ACM announced this a while back. Putting these features behind the paywall is how ACM intends to encourage libraries to maintain their subscriptions with a cost model that isn’t sustainable for libraries in the least.
