Please do not come to the US.

It's okay. I know you know that our government is not us. I know you know that we love you. I know you know that we are in a terrible place.

But please don't come here.

I can not guarantee your safety.

I am horrified to be saying it, it feels awful, I hate hate hate it, but the simple truth is that I can not guarantee your safety.

There is no rule of law here. Our government is led by people who do not believe in any of our shared values.

@GeePawHill even china is safer. At least there are rules how their oppressive system works. And they follow them. The US is just oppressive, but has no written rules because those would be illegal.
Is it anarchy?

@GeePawHill I have had many heartfelt conversations with Americans and only once has it been a hate filled rant eg MAGA. It is this government and not the American people but the hurt and anger outside of usa is real. I wish you well and I know there is a deep well of people in usa who are fighting for democracy

@GeePawHill Despite being an EU citizen, I do not have visa-free access there due to my romanian passport anyways, since they've changed their mind, but in all honesty, I've always been indifferent about going.

Besides safety concerns, I'd also have to allow myself to become the subject of even greater humiliation. Having my phone, my accounts, my contacts checked just in case that I might have liked a meme with baby vance or the supreme leader/s and risk to be detained...I'm not down for that.

@GeePawHill

“Our government is led by people who do not believe in any of our shared values.”

Counterpoint: the actions of a democratically elected government definitionally represent and illustrate the ‘shared values’ of the society that elected it.

Individuals in that society may not share those values but it’s difficult to argue the society as a whole doesn’t.

@GeePawHill So many reasons to not come to the US.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-tourists-social-media-history-5-years-trump/

If I wasn't already a citizen I wouldn't even entertain the notion.

"There's so much beautiful stuff in the US!"

Yes, and there is beautiful stuff everywhere. If you need to come to the US to find it, you're not looking hard enough. The world is a big place.

Tourists from 42 countries will have to submit 5 years of social media history to enter U.S. under Trump plan

The Trump administration is proposing to ask visitors from countries with visa-free travel to the U.S. to submit five years of their social media history before they can enter.

@GeePawHill the media made it look like the US was the greatest country in the world, but people are seeing its true colors. The US is the epicenter of capitalism and racism. I hope one day the people from your country will wake up and organize themselves to do something about it. Many pieces must fall before the US is put back in its place.

@GeePawHill I'm so sorry.

Last time I visited the US was in 2000. On a form, we were asked if we were planning to murder the us president, we said no. The immigration officer asked my friend if she had any mariuana. She could not understand since her English was limited, and he said since we were going to that hippie style hostel... I translated, she said "Nooo!", he smiled and we were allowed to pass.

Those were the days....

@GeePawHill The false, narrow proclamation that life was and is only about survival of the fittest of course denied the collaborative parts of species. And the US obsession with individualism is now revealing how bad a path was for most Americans. Compare with superior quality of life in the Nordic countries.

@GeePawHill USA needs many more Luigi. It's your only way to get out fascism, Europe or South and North America will not come to rescue you.
Nobody will rescue people from international fascism except their own individual actions and own sacrifice.

Don't finesse me, keep your eye on the ball.

I am old. I am cis. I am white. I am male. I own my house. I own my land. I am not some bearded radical you might wanna sleep with on an off night. (Tho, you know, call me <waggle-finger gesture>.)

I am telling you, straight up: If you come here, I can not guarantee your safety.

@GeePawHill How deep into Gilead the US is already in scale 1 - 10?

Do "they"* murder reporters already for excample? Womens / LGBT / human rights activists?

I heard about those ICE consentration camps. (Not destruction camps - yet?) How are they going?

I heard u had more prisoners per capita than China. Already before maga.

So. How like Gilead the US already is?

*(It is always *they* isnt it? Sometimes you. Never "we".)

@GeePawHill unfortunately, the situation is such that, if you want to meet up with any of your mates on here, you'll have to travel to their country. Because I am sure that I wouldn't be safe (also male, cis, het, married, white and British), so I can't think how much worse it would be for some lady who looks foreign...

@GeePawHill I am 63. I never had the money or the need to visit the US, although almost everybody around me did. In the last years, specifically since 2016, I felt that visiting the US will not be a good experience for me. Unless something changes radically, I will probably live the rest of my life without this.

Yeah. I have friends I'd love to visit in the US.

Not going there. I do not feel safe visiting the States anymore. A LOT would have to change to make me trust the US again.

Last time I was there, I had a few things going in my favor: white, European, female. I felt mostly safe, even driving alone.

Now, being European makes me a target. Same goes for being female.

@GeePawHill Y'know, tho, I'd prolly be safer on your land than I am where I am in the US. Properties aren't changing hands because owners can hike rents pretty much at will. (The interest rate drop isn't going to make a dent.) I'm seriously thinking about heading down to the sheriff's office just to make nice, you know, to soften the blow.

Bless you for caring about traveler safety, and you're right to worry.

Need a live-in gardener? ;)

Looking over from the EU that is pretty much my view.
Very sorry for all the nice people I am never going to be able to meet and magnificent nature which I won't see with my own eyes.
Since we don't have a ecological sustainable way of traveling between the continents I wouldn't have gone anyways...
