This morning, as the zfs-send/receive had finished its job during the night, I performed the last sync and moved FediMeteo from the previous 4 euros/month VPS - netcup - to a 4 euros/month VPS - OVH, Milano, Italy.

Thanks to #BastilleBSD and the jail setup, it was easy peasy.

So, the weather forecasts are now broadcast from Italy and the performance has skyrocketed - while still being served by a 4 euro/month VPS.

I suspect the netcup VM had been capped by the provider - but I'll investigate.

So...Ciao, FediMeteo!

@stefano just a warning heads-up…OVH likes to ratchet up the prices on their instances. The one I have was a <$5/mo deal, but the pricing for the same specs have climbed to over $10/mo since. My hope is to migrate that VPS off to a different hosting service before the next renewal comes up. 😞

@gumnos I think I used their VPS years ago, last time, but I've been using their dedicated for more than 15 years. I was quite upset when they introduced the setup fees but, more than that, the fact you have to pay a monthly fee for the ipv4 classes (you used to pay one setup fee and they were then included in the server price). Oh, I've been more upset when 142 of my servers when down (and some "in the cloud") in the "Great Fire of Strasbourg", March 2021.

But yes, I'm still using them and I'm generally satisfied.

@stefano FediMeteo is much faster for me. Both mastodon.bsd.cafe and git.hardenedbsd.org are slow as snails, here in Brazil.

@0x1eef interesting! Can you please send me a ping result to fedimeteo and to bsd Cafe? So I can compare them.
