Criminalising poverty by hassling the people stuck in it, is like criminalising assault by hassling the people who get beaten up.
Why aren't we prosecuting people getting richer by abolishing other people's jobs, rather than prosecuting people for being homeless in a public place? What aren't we prosecuting people who overcharge for designer landfill marketed as useful items?
NatACT First may be able to criminalise being homeless in a public place. But what I don't think they can get away with is criminalising handing out political leaflets in a public place.

So, I've got a suggestion for groups who support the rights of our homeless whānau, and have access to printing resources;
* print thousands of copies of a leaflet laying out the poverty-creating policies of this government. Include a 'please donate to the person who gave you this' message
* give them to homeless people to hand out
* have non-homeless volunteers join them
* allow homeless volunteers to keep the donation, while non-homeless ones pass it on to whoever's covering printing costs
@strypey I once managed to get much needed money running a protest against some wasteful initiative.
Id have some protest posters (rather artistic) and mention how much it cost to photocopy and then ask them if they would like one.
Given Id already struck up a rapour, they seemed more than happy to more than compensate me for my time.
