Working through #AdventOfCode Day 3 Part 2 while my wife works and we half-watch Lost for the first time since it was originally broadcast. Funny how much of it I remember compared to other series I've seen multiple times.
Day 3 Part 2 is the first time I've had code that worked on the sample input that didn't work on the actual input. Kinda interesting and frustrating. I'm still plunking away using #bash which is fun. So far, each of the Part 1 challenges can pretty much be done in a one-liner, and I tend to think in that chain of cobbled-together steps, so I can work out most if not all of it on the fly. But each Part 2 for me has had some mild monkeywrench that required pivots in strategy, handling corner cases, etc., that meant pivoting to a real script. This time, I have toggleable debug code and some other niceties that I will probably reuse in the future when I get over this current obstacle.
Even though Day 5 dropped a little over an hour ago, it's still Day 4 in my timezone, and I was really hoping to set foot into Day 4 before bed. Not looking like I'm going to make it, unless an epiphany or some other miracle happens in the next half hour or so.
