Despite International Maritime Organisation regulation setting limits to merchant marine air pollution (emissions), it seems on the basis of ship-by-ship research that many ships in international waters are nowhere need meeting these regulatory limits.

As I've posted on before: sea-freight shipping emissions remain a key aspect of climate response that is at best underdeveloped & at worst a callous disregard of environmental needs at sea.
