Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance, 2 days after the UCP used the notwithstanding clause to strip trans youth of their Canadian Charter rights, in order to pass 3 anti-trans bills which have previously been held up by court injunction for human rights violations.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance, every year on November 20th, honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. It immediately follows Transgender Awareness Week from November 13th-19th.

The act of stripping trans folk of their charter rights and endangering their health and safety through hateful anti-trans legislation during this week was cruel and calculated. It was an act of the deepest malice.

So today let us remember those who have been lost and harmed by anti-trans violence, as well as those who are yet to be harmed and lost by this malicious, hateful government.

The hate speech, the slurs, the accusations of "mental illness" have all come up in full force today and this week, by all those who follow the UCP caucus.

This was supposed to be a time of love and healing, not a furtherance of hate to isolate and marginalize the most vulberable.
