The reason many middle-aged white women turn TERF is that they've internalised the messaging from and about the disappointing cis men in their lives that said people really can't help being useless at emotional labour and around the house. That they can't help being sexually shallow, disrespectful to women, and sometimes violent. That men really are just useless half-humans that you can't expect real human connection and an adult sense of responsibility from.

Then they see #trans women just walking around being straight-up full human beings and performing womanhood without apparent effort, and it puts the lie to the biological argument. It implies that their male colleagues, their relatives, their peers, and in particular their husbands act the way they do because they choose to. They choose to be man-children because it suits them.
