#ScribesAndMakers Nov 17 - Tell us about a memorable performance of a play you've attended.
It has to be The Big Picnic by Bill Bryden. Staged in the old Harland and Wolff engine shed in Glasgow, it told the story of the "pals battalions" of World War I, an idea that almost guaranteed all of the men of a village or town being wiped out at once in the horrors of the battles.
It took place on an immense set which stretched from a Glasgow dance hall through to a full recreation of the trenches and the audience walked along to follow the action as the story progressed. It was only staged for one season and I don't know if they could ever do it again, but I would rush to buy a ticket if they did.
