The black and white picture is taken inside the passageway though the bastion. I'm photographing from the pedestrian passage through the arches opening up to several consecutive car lanes and the pedestrian walkway on the oter side. The arche closer to me is dark gray, the arches between the carlanes are more brightly lit and the other pedestrian passage is shrouded in darkness giving the feel of endlessness beyond that darkness, like looking into an abyss. On the closer car lane there is part of a moving car visible contrasting the very static and symetric composition.
