I’ve been getting a lot of Chinese spam and I know it’s spam because nobody uses my Mandarin name other than spammers and scammers (and Chinese teachers), and I’m really enjoying saying ‘can you please speak English to me I don’t understand Chinese’ in Mandarin and then hanging up when I hear them start speaking English very slowly before they realize what I’ve just tried to make them do

Sometimes I speak to them in other southern Chinese languages and tell them they should learn Cantonese

I always feel sad after getting one of these calls coz I also know that many people on the other line have been trafficked into doing this work. But also, this whole thing is just bad vibes all around. There is clearly some kind of list of Chinese speaking immigrants in the U.S. (I’m certain my no was in some data breach from some Chinese app I use) and

The way they start off all of these they are clearly targeting new immigrants who are lonely and alienated in a new country and who just want a friend.
