"This Armistice-Veterans Day, thought of those in my family who fought in World Wars I and II, as did many soldiers from our area of Pennsylvania. Our country was antifascist in its ideals — not authoritarian. And our fathers, grandfathers, uncles and neighbors fought, many giving their lives, that we might live with freedom, choices, security, peace.
A friend recently said to me that he thought the word 'antifa' sounded as though it might be an exotic mixed drink. Really? “Antifa” from the two elements — 'anti' and 'fascist' — is NOT a mixed drink. Our relatives and neighbors who fought for us in WWII, and the United States as a country, were 'antifa, another way of saying 'anti-fascist.'
When people in the current administration in Washington call 'antifa' terrorists, I hear them insulting our families and the many Americans and people of other nations who saved our democracies in the 1940s. One might say that those people in the administration are lying to us; for what purpose would that be?"
