Ok so I am a Windows user and I use "free" Adobe software, stream music via TIDAL, write mods for Zoo Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon 2 occasionally, I do play Windows games sometimes. Which distro would meet my requirements?

I've tried using wine on Ubuntu but I just can't make it work.

@emilyenco Are you using Windows?!!?! 😜

Seriously (yes I'm replying with my nerd-account). Let me try to unravel your wishes.

- Adobe software: It depends which Adobe software. Most Adobe software have an open-source Linux alternative. E.g. Photoshop > The Gimp. Yes that has a learning curve, but Photoshop has that too. https://itsfoss.com/adobe-alternatives-linux/
- Tidal: There are multiple 'unofficial' desktop apps (with Electron and native). All work without problems.
- Zoo Tycoon: As other repliers already noticed. Lutris/Wine. Actually Steam has it's own OS based on Linux (I see they don't have Zoo Tycoon), so most Steam games are working great on Linux. The reason Linux has lesser games than Windows is not a technical issue, but a capitalist issue.

So back to your question. Which distro? I use Ubuntu, but if I had the time I would switch to another one. I think Linux Mint (with the Cinnamon DE) (as you being a Windows user) is the best choice.

Another option is SteamOS. I don't have experience with this distro, but it's like Ubuntu (and therefore indirect also Mint) based on Debian.

Good luck.

@joeneXtra Guess it's time for me to learn Inkscape. But I've also seen this new project Graphite which I'm willing to try.

@joeneXtra The thing is, Zoo Tycoon is not a Steam game (Zoo Tycoon from 2013 is), I have an iso with a Windows installer. This game is from 2001 and Windows 11 even can't consistently run it, which is why I'm still running Win10 past the end of support date. (really bad idea for security).

Microsoft is really pushing me to move away by not providing me with the means to run a 24 year old game.

@emilyenco I think old games should be able to run in Wine. I never tried Lutris, but you can try. There is also PlayOnLinux. I'm not a gamer, but hopefully others can help you with that. Linux Mint will give you probably more choice in Wine related apps than SteamOS is my uneducated guess.

Reply on your other reply: I never heard about Graphite as a Inkscape replacement. But Inkscape is very professional and popular. I also use it for simple things likes maps and flags. Editing a complicated SVG will learn you a lot.
