people think degrowth is about living in countryside without internet or electricity or some shit and like, no

it just means that instead of churning out stuff as fast as possible in biggest amounts possible just for it all to be sold three times the actual price and discarded or broken in two three years, our society focuses on making things that last

that's why it's called degrowth. it's not abandoning technology, it's about abandoning capitalism

i would love to have a laptop i can disassemble and customize and tune parts in that would last 20-30 years

i would love to have a pair of sneakers or a faux-leather jacket that don't turn to dust when you look at them wrong and aren't thrown away as soon as they're "out of style"

i would love for food that wasn't eaten to be turned into compost for agriculture or biofuel

or for recycling to actually work

degrowth not only means anti-obsolescence materially, it also means anti-obsolescence in terms of software too

i remember how so many games i played basically became lost media overnight because flash got discontinued

i am not saying technological progress should stop, i say i don't want everything good that we create be destroyed or moved down for profit

i wish analog mediums and tech didn't go extinct but kinda entered a symbiotic relationship with digital tech and mediums

i wish art and games and books and films were allowed to be archived on the web without copyright bullshit

granted i am not sure how cost effective anything of this will be, but i think it's a future to strive towards, because what we live right now is just not it captain

also, just wanted to add: the capitalist infinite growth model necessitates slavery

slave labor is the most "optimal" form of labor to capitalism (or any other system that prioritizes profit and concentration of power and wealth within the hands of ruling class): it allows to produce as much product as possible for the smallest cost possible
