We wrote up a blog post detailing our development and quality assurance workflow. We describe how new contributions are merged into the code base, and we address the change to our policy regarding AI-assisted code submissions and the concerns raised about it. https://keepassxc.org/blog/2025-11-09-about-keepassxcs-code-quality-control/

@keepassxc generative AI is built on top of the theft of human labor on an unprecedented scale. The companies that trained the LLMs scraped everything from the Internet regardless of permission, applicable laws, copyrights, and long-time agreed upon practices. They willfully ignored established rules and etiquette and used underhanded methods when necessary indicating they knew full well it was wrong.

They stole all of it without attribution, recognition, or compensation to the original creators.

Then they used this stolen material to generate billions of dollars in valuation with no intention of ever crediting the original creators while also using obscene amounts of energy, often produced by the dirtiest power available, thus creating more pollution to worsen global warming. These data centers also need ridiculous amounts of water to keep cool which is taken from public sources, often literally drinking water. It takes time to build data centers and the utility infrastructure necessary to run them. But they do not have time. If they take time, they get behind, and the money train leaves them in the dust. So they do what is fast and of questionable legality.

This is all before you look at the shitty quality of what genAI actually produces. GenAI does not think and cannot "reason" no matter what the companies behind them might say. They do not even know what "words" or "code" are. They look at tokenized values and make statistical guesses as to what should come after.

And they are doing it all so they can fire you from your job and replace you with a regurgitation engine trained on your own work. They want you to suffer. They want you to be afraid. They want you to have no power. They do not value human creativity. They hate it, in fact.

No company that has a choice should embrace genAI.

No company that claims to value human knowledge and freedom should embrace genAI.

I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

@keepassxc
Since we are using AI responsibly this way, it made little sense to ban AI submissions by third-party contributors. Such a policy would be near-impossible to enforce anyway. In fact, we’d rather have them transparently disclose the use of AI than hide it and submit the code against our terms.
ah, yes, clearly impossible to discourage anything like this since they'll all just lie so we need to openly allow it

If our AI policy toppled your trust in us, ask yourself why you trusted us (or anyone) in the first place. You don’t know us, you trust our reputation, and we earned that by building a stable product, which we will continue to do.
I didn't have any reasons not to yet, you had a reputation, and everyone else had screwed up worse. *sigh*

@keepassxc also just think the stuff's shit from an ethics perspective (theft, associated costs)
