After a couple of mysterious wipes and some corruption of the CF card in the Bluetooth iPod, I redid the insulation and padding inside and it seems to have settled down.

While noticing pin 1 (as directed by the CF board), I noticed that the soldering on the back of it was a bit "spiky" so I've gone a bit overboard now.

Fortunately removing a spinning hard drive has left a lot of internal space to play with in the case, not all of which I've filled with new and exciting electronics.

I'm now playing music in my office from the iPod to speakers across the room and it's pretty stable!

I'm going to tear this thing apart maybe one more time once it's behaved for a bit, take a bunch of photos and maybe make a blog post about what's in there, and what's next.

I should order a new battery, I thought I'd replaced this one already but I was thinking of a totally different iPod apparently. I'm amazed how well this one is still working considering it's (checks notes) 20 years old.

Yes, I do have quite a few of them kicking around in various states of functionality.

Pairs up nicely with an old charging dock I still had kicking around!

@decryption the killer feature was a normal USB-B socket on the back so you could connect your iThing to a computer without a special Apple wire.
