I spend a lot of my work and personal time typing text and code. Using VS Code was a no-brainer. Everyone uses it. Every project support it. And it Just Works™.

But what if I wanted to use smaller, simpler, standardized tools? As someone who never managed to get into (Neo)Vim, Helix has been an epiphany. It's not as scary as I thought.

The 80s called, and they want to give us our freedom back.

@thibaultamartin Have you looked at Jetbrains at all? Their community support is fairly legendary, at least in PHPland. My last team was 50/50 between VS Code and Jetbrains (PhpStorm, in our case).

@linc
JetBrains product are usually more sluggish than terminal editors.
I mean i can plug my phone on a screen and keyboard and have no noticable latency ob helix, while with 4 files open in something like VSCode or RustRover...well you get my point.

@linc The JetBrains IDEs are usually very good in my experience. And I really loved using Zed too!

I went with Helix to try something a bit more minimalist, a bit less corporatey, and it just stuck 😄

@thibaultamartin@mamot.fr I think you did more customization on your helix setup, than I did on my vim setup, but happy you found something you like! 😁
