ok #macos nerds I need some help please!

my dock has a m2 slot with an ssd in there that I use for time machine backups. the issue I have is that the drive will just disappear and I need to remove the ssd and reconnect to the laptop

I can't see anything in syslog or anything else and I really don't know how to diagnose it. any assistance or pointers will be appreciated
