It's hard not to see the huge upswell of community support for #Python and the @ThePSF and not feel sadly vindicated in recent criticism of the state of the #Ruby community.

Python is unbelievably popular, shed its outdated BDFL model years ago and built better governance, and has found broad application across dozens of vertical industries.

Ruby barely holds above legacy language water (Objective-C, Groovy), offers one big (fashy) framework, and governance is objectively in disarray.

Does this mean I'm abandoning ship and leaving Ruby for Python? Certainly not. 😅 Yes I have huge respect for Python—even used it in some different ways back in the 2000s. But I remain a Rubyist at heart. I love the syntax and feature set of Ruby. I love my best Ruby friends.

That's why I'm always upset at how much we keep punching ourselves in the face. This community deserves better. And I will not rest until we see meaningful change.

@jaredwhite I feel very similar. Things I love about Python: community spine. Community docs.

Things I love about Ruby: pretty much everything actually associated with a scripting language, and the web focus.
