I'm finally getting Planting Life in a Dying City added to QueeRomance Ink, and going through topics I can add the book to.
And I had to stop at marriage equality. Because marriage equality in that culture is a fairly major plot point in the book, but NOT marriage equality in the normal sense.
Because in the society of Planting Life there are two types of family, both of them polyamorous and queer. One is multi-generational, where some of the children of a marriage group form the core of a successor marriage group, who inherits the family business, land, traditions, etc.
The other type of family lasts only a single generation, with the children all going their separate ways to form new marriage groups and families. They usually inherit very little, if anything from their parents, because often there is nothing to inherit. And these marriages are not recognized by society as marriages at all. In fact, the people in them are called 'familyless' because in societies view they don't have actual families.
I'm not checking the 'marriage equality' tic on the form, because obviously QRI is referring to the modern political movement. But it did get me thinking.
