#ClimateDiary Really thinking of everyone in Jamaica as the island is bracing itself for #hurricanemelissa

All the more so because I have a PhD student there right now, researching coffee production past and present in the Blue Mountains. She says her building has strong walls but needless to say I am very anxious for her and everyone she is with. Also this year’s coffee harvest! As ever, having a human connection makes it all the more real.
