Is #AI a threat to the future of free and #OpenSource software?
https://www.zdnet.com/article/why-open-source-may-not-survive-the-rise-of-generative-ai/

From @davidgewirtz: "[1] Generative AI is erasing open source code provenance. [2] FOSS reciprocity collapses when attribution and ownership disappear. [3] The commons that built AI may not survive its success."

@petersuber @davidgewirtz

Ai eliminates ownership clarity. Which is fine if you're so big that no one can sue you.

But Open Source survives in a difficult world where it has to reject all proprietary code, and the perception of including any proprietary code.

With the elimination of that clarity, it means that the Goliath's will go after open source and carve it up for dinner.

Open source only exists because its allowed to exist.

@petersuber @davidgewirtz
we must wake up. Read "Foundation Trilogy" by Isaac Asimov for the solution. It's near the beginning, so it's not a tall order.
