Narrow siloed reporting and analysis everywhere. No attempt to and seemingly no interest in joining dots.

On #r4today’s business segment, discussion of growth levels of an economy “muddling through” and no exploration of what levels of growth are structurally needed to keep expectations standing up (e.g. NHS, pensions), and therefore what to consider if that is not being and will not be met.

And in my timeline, an article about solar growth and the “end of coal” in Australia but…

@urlyman I so agree. But there was a guy, David Satterfield I think, on the programme who was actually talking some sense about Middle East. Measured and thoughtful about the complexities of the situation and not following the current juvenile BBC line of how marvellous everything is now.

…not even a mention of Australia’s trade dependency on coal exports or the implications of maintaining a vast installed base of coal-dependent solar without coal.

I’m daily dismayed by serial incuriosity at the system all this is a part of

…which is why we end up with hydro/wind states like Norway living of oil exports, and the intention of solar states like Qatar living off gas exports and Australia living of coal exports. No doubt in the latter case, some to China where the solar will be made with coal and then exported back again to Australia using oil bought from Russia.
