While I appreciate the craft and the delight of reviving apps, games, and platforms past to make them survive standing on top of new technology, I don't believe that helping grow the codebase available to web browsers (increasingly meaning: Google Chrome) is in our best interest.
Retrofitting the web, modern applications, and knowledge to the old and retrofuture platforms is the more interesting, less tainted, alternative, and potentially beneficial direction.
One approach points in the direction of giving powerful platforms more power. The other, alternative approach gives powerful platforms less power, and it gives "lesser" platforms more of it. And in the process, with a little work and a little hope, maybe fewer of the things we got wrong.
In my opinion.
