Just wrapped up a PeerTube co-op proposal at #FediCollective in Vancouver.

It went well—but the a big question was: “How will creatives make money?”

My instinct was to think, we’re not even there yet. My priority right now is the co-op’s sustainability and survivability, which is achievable through membership buy-in and a tiered subscription model.

But then a Nigerian man raised a crucial point: Fediverse adoption in Africa is stalling because instance owners aren’t addressing this exact need.

And it’s not a small need. Monetization can be life-changing for African creatives.

So yes—this is something I’m going to have to tackle head-on.
