Unpaid carers (full disclosure, I am one) while potentially gaining Carers' Allowance (despite the attrition of the DWP against those who are supplementing that through part-time work) are offering a massive subsidy to the country & its allocation of funds to social care.
In 2024 the Center for Care estimated the value of that unpaid care to be around £184bn... and just to put that in perspective that's nearly (although not quite) equal to the total NHS budget!
