The border with the black area is sharply defined, while on the other side it bleeds out in a halo, I think because the untreated canvas soaked up some of the paint. Travelling down the edge there is a faint green glow, as if the source of the colour is about to come around a corner to be fully revealed.

In both you can see craters left by bubbles of paint bursting as they dried. The yellow contrasts strongly with and bleeds into the majority of the visible image which is a richly textured blue that evokes the ocean.
