Welp. I would say this experiment is an unqualified success.

I now have #nixos latest running on the 2009 Macbook Pro, including the finicky Broadcom wifi drivers.

Next question: Will it be too slow to be of any use?

It takes about 30s for #firefox to load and about 2m to do a #nix rebuild.

I guess only time will tell :)

My Macbook Pro 2009 resurrection experiment's success was short lived.

Now it won't power on and can't keep a charge.

Assuming it's the battery, I don't think I'm capable of the battery replacement procedure.

Ah well, I tried!
