Toying around with #google #cloud today, I've not seen worse performing storage in decades. This is supposed to be their premium offering, hyperdisk, with tunable IOPS and throughput.

Type
Hyperdisk Balanced
Size
200 GB
Provisioned IOPS
4,200
Provisioned throughput
440 MB/s
This thing is struggling at 100% busy doing 4 IOPS, around 0.5s/write, 400KB/s on a fully idle premium CPU system with 32 cores & 64 GB RAM.
It's roughly 1000x slower than expected on all metrics.
It's an embarassment, my 10 year old laptop has better IO than this.
Is this a common experience in #Google 馃ぁ ?
