Good morning! If you’re on mastodon.social (or another server running nightly builds) you can begin quoting posts in your posts (quooting?) starting today. Remember, you control whether you can be quoted, and can always retract your post from a specific quote. And you can quote me on that!

Goodbye, coherent, readable threads.
@Gargron
Quost. I'll have news on quost this morning, thanks
@Gargron I look forward to seeing it in action, as I've already been makeshift "quoting" others for some time (Such as this quote I made on a toy collecting post).
One question about the ability to retract quotes though; if someone used a quote in a way that broke server rules, does removing your post from their quote negatively impact your ability to report it, or make it more difficult to prove your case? Is there any kind of "history" the moderators can look back on for context, or does it become your word against theirs at that point?
@Gargron WE DID IT! THE TERM IS OFFICIAL!
something that wasn't clear to me and perhaps of interest to others about #quoteposts
i knew this:
in your preferences you can change the setting to allow #quoteposting on your toots globally. to anyone/ followers only/ or just yourself
but i didn't know you could also do it per post
so you might allow anyone to quote post you, as a general policy
but then on one particular post of yours you may disallow a #quotepost as you see fit
> you can begin quoting posts in your posts (quooting?) starting today
Even if my host chooses not to implement it, I'll survive just fine with Markdown-ish quotes like above, which has the added flexibility of being able to quote specific bits of text from a post and thus also the ability to be used repeatedly in a reply for different bits of text from the same post. Quooting can't do that, can it?
@Gargron I am new to Mastodon and not very good with social media in general. How do you quote people?
@Gargron Just have to wait for our preferred/required (Windows accessibility needed for me to be efficient) supports this quoting feature which I really want to use
@Gargron We've played with them on infosec.exchange a few days ago already :)
@Gargron noting that the form quooting that someone mentioned the other day shows itself here too 🙂
@Gargron well just tried a quote boost of some one else's quote boost, which I just discovered was a quote boost of another toot.
