Final pic from Labor Day weekend. This is the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293) in all it's true-color glory (as in, no special filter was used). This is a planetary nebula (gas that has been sloughed off and ionized by a dying red giant star) that is a relatively close ~650 light-years away from Earth. Also known as the "Eye of God" or "Eye of Sauron" nebula.

Details:

  • Celestron 8" EdgeHD (w/ 0.7x reducer) + ASI2600MC
  • 216x180s (10.8 hr)
  • Bortle 4
  • PixInsight w/ BlurX, NoiseX, StarX
