You may be shocked to learn that providing people housing is a great way to fight issues surrounding the unhoused. In Denver, the number of encampments of more than 20 people dropped 98% thanks largely* to the new initiative.

"They have a door that they can lock. They have air conditioner in the summer, heaters in the winter. They have a place where they can receive their mail," Chandler said. "Really, an opportunity to start rebuilding their lives."

  • the article attributes the full drop to the new initiative, but that's bad statistics. The 98% decrease is calculated by comparing Q1 of 2025 to Q4 of 2023 (a date selected because it was the peak number of unhoused folk).

Better analysis would compare this drop to drops in other, similar cities to see how much of the drop is due to improving economic conditions following peak Covid economic harm (which is not me saying we've reached peak harm to health from it).
