@pluralistic Congratulations, enhancing concise communication one adverbial phrase at a time.
@pluralistic Congratulations! And it looks like they nailed the definition. Are you happy with it?
@pluralistic Nice, but is Enshittification restricted to digital platforms?
For example: Isn't the way products like smartphones, kitchen appliances, even cars, or train locomotives, become less and less repairable an enshittification, too?

@pluralistic congratulations! :D
@pluralistic The IT director for my work city used the term “encrapification” today, so now there’s a SFW version.
@Fledglingnerd @pluralistic I made this slide in my talk at Everything Open in January mostly ‘coz it amused me but also ‘coz we sometimes have young folk in the audience… 💁♀️
(yes, I read it out as “en-poop-ocene”, “en-poop-ening”, etc. 🙃)
@pluralistic Curious; why do they confine the definition to digital platforms? That's unrealistically narrow.
@pluralistic IIRC, your produced many apt and delicious neologisms, but it’s lovely that this one has become unavoidably entrenched.
@pluralistic replace "digital platform" with "product": a lot of non digital things have been enshitified!!!
@pluralistic I'm currently listening to episode 500 of your podcast containing an excerpt from #Enshittification the audio book.
At the beginning you not only quoted Ed Zitron, you actually had him say: "I'll never forgive them for what they've done to the computer." I thought that was super cool.
It made me think the audio book would be even better with more people voicing their own quotes, like having @tveastman actually say "I'm old enough to remember when the Internet wasn't a group of five websites, each consisting of screenshots of text from the other four."
I don't know if he'd be interested, and I don't know if it's possible at this stage, but IMO it would really enhance the audio book experience to do that.
Just an idea.
@pluralistic Not quite true to how you described it but not bad for a first pass of history.
@pluralistic I feel this definition isn't limited to just digital platforms.
@pluralistic It's now legal in Scrabble if anyone manages it!
