Friends, I just boosted a #feditips post & boost about the latest wave of “your account needs to be verified” phishing that is going on.
We have some pretty reliable confirmation that the links being sent out are malicious, DO NOT CLICK THEM. Report the post.
The other great advice in that boost is to know your mod/admin accounts. You can find them on the “About” page for any instance, even when not logged in.
We do not deputize random generic names from other instances to “verify” anything.
For the record, wandering.shop’ers, thanks to some good input from the community, I’ve set myself a protocol for any time an admin has to reach out to one of you.
If there is a concern with your account, first contact will be a DM from Proprietor, with a CW mask and appropriate title.
If we cannot connect that way, it will be via email to the account you registered with.
We do not have a generic “support” or “info” account.
