Well-connected person whom I trust was just telling me that he’s personally talked to 4 Canadians who in recent weeks have had US CBP demand to look through their phones and on that basis been turned back and handed 5-year entry bans. Three of the 4 were at Vancouver airport. These people are not taking their story to media because they don’t want to draw attention to their employers.

@timbray
You haven't been clear about whether they were refused entry because of what was on their phones, or because they declined to hand them over.

The former is probably the case. If so, then do you know what was on their phones that led CBP to deny entry? What does it appear CBP was looking for?
