I visited the Botanic Gardens at Chatfield (South of #Denver ) especially for the butterfly house where right now they have 8 or so native species fluttering around for people to see.

Monarchs, Queens, Painted Ladies, Spicebush Swallowtail, Buckeye, some others I can't remember now...

It was a bittersweet experience seeing these butterflies because we should be seeing them out in the wild, but the destruction of so much of their habitat has turned them into rarities.

It's been years since I saw a monarch in the wild. I have distant memories of going out into fields of milkweed with my grandpa as a kid seeing them fluttering around me.
