The plant was one of the first native plants I planted, and I feel it has seen our family grow. The older Kid was never much interested in it (aside from the possibility of huckleberry pie), but the Little Kid had always been close to it.
One of the first words of Little Kid was "bilili" for "blueberry". When I showed him he could eat the berries from the huckleberry, he immediately said "hucklebilili", which was a quite an impressive word for a toddler, and one sweet memory for me.
