Watching the Dune Prophecy series. Does the Dune universe's Butlerian Jihad have it right? Was mechanical computing a bad idea?

@strypey 🤷‍♂️AI was. Not the specific model of statistical modeling of human discourse that we currently use, but the basic, essential concept of, “we will create mechanical minds of approximately equivalent intelligence to humans to be our slaves.”
Of course, the post-Butlerian response of, “we will alter our slaves to more closely approximate the machines,” missed the point in the most dismally predictable way.

@strypey Of course, the existence of an “emperor” and baron Harkonnen’s flagrant and consequence-free behavior is kind of a tip-off that this wasn’t an exercise in utopianism. Or even just any effort at creating a decent society.
