The earliest port of #UNIX is probably that of Sixth Edition to Interdata/7, which involved port of the Ritchie compiler -- on paper. Mind you, this predates the Portable C Compiler which debuted in Seventh Edition. Seventh Edition subsequently made its way to Interdata/8 and VAX-11. With the VAX port, UNIX and C compiler were extended for a 32-bit machine in a mostly straightforward way. What followed was a port to SLASH 6 (/6), which looks like an absolute opposite of a straightforward port. (1/6)
